Kenny ended the season at Homestead with a good car despite a late race crash that ended his bid to finish with a top 20 run. After a solid qualifying run, the car was loose to start the race, but crew chief Chris Rice was able to make the right adjustments and Kenny was able to move up, getting a lap back and running with some still competition.  Kenny says that the team is already working toward 2009.

“I was surprised that it was so hot in Homestead,” Kenny says.  “It was 80 or 90 degrees-I swear the sun is closer to the earth down there.  We went down there and qualified 24th and we thought it was a pretty good qualifying run.  At the start of the race the car was really loose.  I lost a lap, but Chris adjusted on the car and we got our lap back against some pretty good cars.  My nephew Stephen was lined up right behind me and I was able to get away from him and some other good cars and get our lap.  Then with 15 or so to go, we were running about 21st and I was passing Marc Davis, I thought I had him clear and I wrecked myself-I went up too soon and I didn’t have him clear.  It was  upsetting to end the year on a negative note.  I guess we finished 32nd or so, so that was Homestead.  But we’re already looking forward to next year!”

Kenny pulled double duty at Phoenix, racing the No. 15 truck for Billy Ballew in the Craftsman Truck Series as well as his regular ride in the No. 20 Border Patrol Chevrolet foor Jay Robinson Racing in the Nationwide Series.  Kenny had great runs in both races, running in the top ten in the truck race when John Wes Townley tangled with his truck and the resulting broken swaybar relegated him to a 22nd place finish.  Kenny finished a solid 16th in the Nationwide race, showing the strength his team has gained this year.

“Phoenix was a really fun time,” Kenny says.  “It was really fun being able to race the truck and the Nationwide races.  In the truck, we were running strong, but we broke a sway bar.  I really enjoy driving those trucks-you can drive them really hard and it’s just a boatload of fun.

“We took the same car as Memphis and it went really well.  We qualified 14th and everything was going good.  We had to restart toward the back a lot of times, because our pit stops were just not up to par, so we had to start toward the back.  At end we took on two tires on the last pit stop and came out in 12th.  We took right sides only.  On the restarts, the car would not go, it was pushing.  It did the exact same thing at Memphis. I felt like I did as good as I could.  On the restart, I was running 12th, and when we went into turn one the car pushed up and I lost 4 spots, which really aggravated me.  I thought it was important to get a top 15, and we got 16th.”
